Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) for Kids

The Cortica Care Model

At Cortica, within our ABA behavioral therapy programs, we not only apply the most effective techniques from Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), but we enhance them by applying key insights from neuroscientific research. This allows us to successfully reshape the neural networks that influence a child's behavior during and after our ABA therapy.

What is ABA Therapy?

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is a scientific discipline concerned with applying techniques based upon the principles of learning to change behavior of social significance. ABA therapy for kids is an important part of therapy for many children with autism or other developmental disorders

What is the goal of ABA Therapy?

Applied Behavior Analysis therapy aims to increase a child's skills for independent living while decreasing challenging behaviors. There are several different approaches to behavior therapy that have been developed and studied. The approach to behavior therapy most widely studied is Applied Behavior Analysis.

How does ABA therapy work?

Research tells us that improving complex information processing should be the goal of Applied Behavior Analysis therapy. Building long-range neural connections supports complex information processing, as well as the integration of sensory, motor, cognitive and social-emotional functions.

To strengthen long-range networks (and to reduce the excess activity in short-range networks), a behavior intervention program must avoid the over-repetition of discrete tasks. Once skills are acquired, they must be immediately expanded and generalized to new contexts.

FAQs

What is the process for starting ABA?

What is the process for starting ABA?

Children enrolled in our program will first receive a comprehensive individualized ABA assessment which will lead to a proposed Therapy plan and specific recommendations for future ABA services. Our ABA assessment will determine if services are best provided in a 1:1 in-home or in-center format, and if group services are clinically appropriate. Each ABA assessment includes a standardized assessment (required for insurance benefits) and direct observation.
