Educational Advocate

​Ricki Light is an Educational Advocate and Strategist at the Melmed Center since 2000.  She has over forty years of educational experience including teaching special and general education in Toronto, Canada, and Los Angeles. Her experiences as a Classroom Teacher, Inclusion Facilitator, Behavior Specialist, Transition Teacher, and Special Education Program Specialist have provided her with an understanding of classroom practices and the needs of children. Ricki has presented at conferences, locally, nationally, and internationally. In her capacity as a Special Education Advocate and Strategist, Ricki works collaboratively with parents, therapists, medical professionals, and school-based teams to develop individual educational support plans that consider her client's unique set of learning, social, emotional, behavioral, and executive functioning strengths and needs. Her child-centered approach, educational background, and years of varied experiences in the field of education have endowed her with skills that help guide families through the often confusing and complicated special education support process. Ricki also consults with school teams by providing strategies to assist children who are struggling in school.
