Advanced Neurological
Therapies for Autism

The Cortica Care Model

Cognition & Behavior

At Cortica, we not only apply the most effective techniques from Applied Behavior Analysis, but we enhance them by applying key insights from neuroscientific research. This allows us to successfully reshape the neural networks that influence a child's behavior.

Behavior intervention -- or early intensive behavior intervention -- is an evidence-based treatment for autism that aims to increase a child’s skills for independent living while also decreasing challenging behaviors. There are several different approaches to behavior therapy that have been developed and studied. The approach to behavior therapy that has been most widely studied is Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA).

“What’s great is the therapists are using her skills and her talent and her personality to make the most of what she can do. It’s a beautiful thing.”
H., Mom of 8 year-old with autism

A Blended Cognitive, Behavioral, and Relationship-Based Model of Care

Our approach to behavior therapy, which we call Neurologic ABA, is a blended model that draws on the most effective techniques from:

Improving Complex Information Processing

Research tells us that improving the development and function of neural networks –- especially networks that connect far-reaching regions of the brain –- should be the goal of autism therapy. That’s because difficulties with complex information processing, such as the integration of sensory, motor, cognitive, and social-emotional functions, are at the heart of autism.

To strengthen long-range networks (and to reduce the excess activity in short-range networks), a behavior intervention program must avoid the over-repetition of discrete tasks. Once skills are acquired, they must be immediately expanded and generalized to new contexts.

Reshaping Neural Networks

Cortica’s approach to behavior therapy aims to reshape neural networks to enhance long-range connectivity.

Our skilled ABA clinicians conduct sessions in the home, clinic, and community.
